Amaka has extensive experience in all aspects of immigration and asylum law. She remains particularly interested and committed to refugee law. She has appeared at all levels of the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, the Administrative Court and Court of Appeal. Her varied caseload includes indefinite leave to remain applications and appeals, EU Settlement Scheme, Deportation and sponsorship licence revocations for claimants.
Amaka has particular expertise in cases involving vulnerable women, victims of trafficking, family reunion, article 8 and deportation. She practises in all aspects of Administrative and Public law.
Committed to all aspects of human rights law, Amaka’s most notable cases include
Agho v Secretary of state for the Home Department [2015] EWCA Civ 1198
a leading judgment on marriages of convenience and
Naidu v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2016] EWCA Civ 156
(on the issues of alleged deception and Paragraphs 320(7A) and 320(7B) of the Immigration Rules.
Most recently (2024): Case No: UI-2024-000375 successful appeal regarding the general grounds of refusal and suitability under Paragraphs 9.8.2 and S-EC.1.5 of the Immigration Rules.
POE (Nigeria) v SSHD 2024: successful asylum appeal (political activist) which was remitted to the First Tier Tribunal and allowed thereafter.
